Document. Don’t Create.

Something that always bothers me is seeing business “experts” with no business experience telling others how to succeed. They read a book on business, listen to a marketing podcast, and decide that they’re an expert who has all the answers.

Then, they give away their “secrets”.

For a price, of course.

Anyone can be an entrepreneur in their head. Being able to actually apply that knowledge is another thing.

So here’s the problem.

As a personal brand, I’m basically selling myself. Content is king. I need to push my content out there to as many people as possible.

But I’m an entrepreneur in the making. How do I create content as a marketer or aspiring businessperson, when I don’t yet have the authority to tell people what actually works?

The answer is actually pretty cool.

I think CEO and multiple best selling author Gary Vaynerchuk said it best.

”Document. Don’t create.”

Creating content is king.

I’m documenting the process of becoming a successful entrepreneur. It’s great. I don’t have to lie about where I am in the journey, and now I’m the ultimate authority because my content is about what I’m actually doing.

Another great side effect is that it holds me accountable. My progress, along with my mistakes, are being documented.

My personal brand will also gain traction early from this. Eyes will be on me during the entire process. As someone who wants to create a strong personal brand, but doesn’t want to pretend to be an “expert” when he’s still learning, it’s the perfect move for me.

To sum it all up:

  • I’m documenting the process of becoming an entrepreneur.

  • Instead of telling people what to do, I’m testing my theories.

  • I’m holding myself accountable to improving my mistakes.

  • My personal brand gains a head-start, as I’ll have a following before I’m an “expert”.

  • The practice of creating constant content develops good habits that I’ll need later.

There’s nothing else really to say.
Talk to y’all later.
